Drain clogging is one of the biggest nuisances you can face. Particularly when you are working with water, a clogged drain can result in something super messy. But almost every problem has a solution.

Let’s take a look at the main reasons why different types of drains might clog:

Shower Drains

Shower drains can get clogged pretty easily. These drains clog up for rather apparent reasons. This includes knots of hair from hair fall or shaving, chemical components of hard water and even chunks of soap getting stuck in the pipelines.

Kitchen Drains

Clogging of kitchen drains is one of the most common problems a household experiences. Kitchen drains too are fairly easy to clog. Such situations occur especially when you directly rinse the dishes with leftover food in the sink, dump grease or soaked tea/coffee beans in the sink.

Bathroom Drains

Bathroom drains clog when clots of hair, dirt or chips of skin accumulate in the strainer. When the water ceases to flow into the sink and pools on the floor, it is a sign that your bathroom drain is clogged.

4 Ways to Fix Clogged Drains

  1. Use a Hooker

If your drain has clogged due to a clutter of hair or flakes of skin, the easiest and cheapest way to unclog it is using a wired hooker. If you have a metal hanger, just bend its wire and hook out the clots of dirt, debris and/or hair from the drain.

  1. Use a Plunger

Most of the houses already have a plunger but in case if you don’t, you can easily buy it your local store. Unclogging a drain using a plunger is pretty simple. All you have to do is place the plunger’s cup directly above the drain. Make sure the cup mouths the drain properly. Hold the plunger straight and then plunger repeatedly for around 10 times. The clots clogging your drain will be sucked out.

  1. Baking Soda with Salt

Warm a jar of water. In the hot water, pour 1 cup of baking soda and ½ a cup of salt. Mix it well. Pour the acidic mixture in the drain and leave it for overnight. In the morning, pour 2 cups of boiling water down the drain. The debris that previously cluttered your clog will dissolve and wash away.

  1. Baking Soda with Vinegar

This is another and one of the most effective home remedies for a clogged drain. Although the mixture is strong in nature, the process still has to be repeated for a couple of time. In a jar pour ½ a cup of baking soda and ½ a cup of vinegar. Mix and pour it straight down the drain. Leave it for a full night. In the morning, boil a jar of water and pour the hot, boiling water directly onto the drain. The acidic element of the mixture will dissolve the components clogging your drain.

With these easy and effective ways, you can easily unclog your drain at home!
